The Stephen C. O’Connell Center (SCOC) is seeking a Facilities Operations Specialist. This position reports to the O’Connell Center Director and assists the Director in the overall operation and upkeep of the O’Connell Center, including the Center’s 10,000 seat arena, natatorium, auxiliary spaces and grounds. Oversees all facility maintenance, housekeeping, capital improvements, building systems, and is responsible for maintaining/updating safety and security procedures and documentation. Serves as a Building Emergency Coordinator (BEC) and is designated as “essential personnel”. This position is expected to work a regular schedule of 40 hours a week, Mon-Fri 8am-5pm. However, due to special events such as concerts, commencement, etc., this position will also require occasional work on nights, weekends and/or holidays. This position’s duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Facility Maintenance:
Responsible for the identification, coordination and the follow up of maintenance/operational issues inside/outside the building with Facilities Services (FS) representatives and the Center’s in-house Maintenance Generalist III. Assists Director in coordinating major/minor capital improvement projects in the Center in conjunction with UF Planning, Design and Construction (PDC). Regularly inspects overall building and grounds, to ensure proper cleaning, maintenance, safety and usability; submits work orders as necessary and tracks completion. Provides direction and coordination for FS's in-house custodial staff. Ensures public and storage areas are efficiently/safely organized. Serves as liaison to pool contractor to ensure natatorium facilities are appropriately maintained.


Building Systems:
Responsible for management and scheduling of building control systems. These systems include but are not limited to: Lenel (access control), Genetec (security cameras), temperature, lighting, fire alarm and smoke evacuation. Responsible for tracking weekly testing of fire alarm system, coordinating maintenance, and scheduling fire watches as needed. Responds to alarms and takes appropriate action to resolve issues. Manages key inventory and access control.

Safety and Security:
Responsible for development/revisions of SCOC safety and security policies/procedures. Works with Director of Operations (DoO) to develop comprehensive plans for emergency/crisis response, continuation of operations (COOP), shelter management and building security. Develops/coordinates training in emergency procedures for all full and part-time staff. Works with UF Environmental Health and Safety, Emergency Management, University Police, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the International Association of Venue Management (IAVM) to stay abreast of potential threats and industry concerns, as well as best practices for facility preparedness/response in emergency situations. Measures SCOC policies, procedures and prevention tactics against the best practices set by DHS. Plays a lead role in risk management of events (assessing proper staffing levels and mitigating potentially unsafe situations) as well as daily operation (establishing proper procedures and follow up with staff). Responsible for testing, maintenance and upkeep of venue safety equipment (magnetometers, AED’s, etc.) and stocking appropriate first aid supplies.

Staff Supervision:
Recruits, trains, schedules and supervises part-time Building Coordinator staff. Assists with the training and supervision of the other programs. Staff programs include, but are not limited to, the following: Guest Relations Coordinators, Building Coordinators, Changeover/Floor, and Event Staff divisions. These programs are for part time staff members/students who have constantly shown exemplary leadership and are given the opportunity to take on more responsibility as supervisors of our general workforce.

Other:
Oversees venue sustainability initiatives and venue space reporting. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director including, but not limited to, event assistance, specialized research and other special projects.


Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
Master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
Computer proficiency, excellent people/communication skills. Experience with project management, public assembly facilities (arena) maintenance and operations, facilities systems such as Johnson Controls, Simplex, Lenel, and Genetec.
